Making pigments and paint

Updated: Mar 9, 2024

About two years ago, I started to experiment with local mineral and organic pigments. Stones rich in iron oxide, found on my local beach and in my home country Luxembourg, as well as plant dyes made from foraged and grown plants around my current home in the UK have been ingredients in recent paintings and woodcut prints.

My work is process driven, starting with observation and research, and resulting in making pigments and using them creatively.

Layers of paint and stone dust create textures, which are reminiscent of the initial inspiration. As with the natural world, in my paintings, whatever is seen on the surface, there is depth and history underneath, existing and evolving, pulling the observer in deeper.
